Every once in awhile it is important to step back from the daily press and reconnect to the sense that it is God who is at work in us to will and to work His good pleasure (Phil 2:13). This does not mean that we should sit passively, waiting for God to fulfill His Word. But we cannot slip into the mindset that by working solely in our own energies we will bring about God’s plan. Somehow, we must come to a living relationship with God where we live in His abounding grace, which gives us abundance for every good deed and every action done in His will (2 Cor 9:8).
Receiving God’s Word is a key to this.
The Word of God is the most powerful force on earth. When held tightly in the spirit of a man of faith it can bring about an entirely new age in human history. Abraham was a man like this. He received a Word that was beyond his capacity to comprehend, but Paul said that Abraham received that Word in the presence of Him whom He believed, even God (Romans 4:17). In the strength of his trust in that relationship, Abraham did not waver at what God said to Him; he knew that what God had promised, He was also able to perform (Romans 4:21). Our trust, our faith in God through Jesus Christ has to be the atmosphere in which we hear and receive the word that is spoken to us. We must also trust and have faith that the Word comes to us from vessels of God’s own choosing. As Paul rejoiced to the Thessalonians; “you received our Word as it was, the Word of God that also performs its work in you who believe” (1 Thess 2:13).
The Word of God tells you that He loves you (1 John 3:1). It tells you that His intent is to form you into the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). Are you open to receive the love and power of God that is being directed at you? Can you open your heart to things that eye has not seen and ear not heard; things that God has in mind for you? Will you let God’s word become an explosive creative force in your life and open your heart to receive what he is saying… about you?
By God’s grace through Christ we will receive His Word!
